Caddy Spoon - Oxford Agricultural Society interest - London 1818 by William Eley & William Fearn - 9.5cm long; 14g - BD/9494
Presentation awards in silver are fairly common-place, less so for silver spoons and very rarely for caddy spoons. This fiddle-pattern caddy spoon is one such example and as engraved to the front terminal was given as a trophy by the Oxfordshire Agricultural Society in the Georgian period. The reverse side of the fluted bowl is engraved:
"To Mr. Humphreys for the best long wool'd Ram, 9th June 1818".
This interesting caddy spoon was made by the top silver spoonmakers of the period, Eley & Fearn and it is in excellent condition throughout.
