Novelty Silver-gilt 'Lizard' Spoon
Sold
Spoon - 'Lizard' - Sheffield 1970 by P Ltd - 19.8cm long; 128g - EC/7151b
This large and heavy novelty silver spoon is possibly unique! It has been modelled as a sinuous lizard holding the spoon bowl in its mouth.
The spoon was given as a Golden Wedding gift to the owner of Baxi (UK boiler makers) by the employees and is engraved thus to the underside. With its heavy weight, it oozes high quality and is most definitely a talking piece!
This clever piece is in fine condition, although the spoon was presumably originally gilt and now only vestiges remain. The spoon is fully hallmarked with the lion passant inside the bowl and the remaining Sheffield marks to the underside.
