This Georgian silver caddy spoon was made by Thomas Hayter and features in the definitive book on tea caddy spoons by John Norie.

Dating from the first decade of the 19th century, this stylish caddy spoon displays a short, rounded handle with a plain oval bowl and is engraved with an original letter "D" in script. It is in fine condition throughout.

Thomas Hayter was a specialist spoonmaker who had been apprenticed to George Smith II until he gained his freedom in 1790 and in 1792 went into partnership with his former master. In 1805, he set up his own business before entering a second partnership, this time with his son George, in 1816.
