Wine Label - Mountain, Cushion-shaped - London circa 1765 by Thomas Hyde - 5cm wide; 13.7g - YK/5782
This is a very handsome silver wine label with the scarce name "MOUNTAIN" engraved to the central field. Dating from the 1760's this attractively shaped decanter label has a bold, flat-chased, feather-edge border and is clearly marked to the reverse with the "T" acorn "H" with crown surmount mark of Thomas Hyde and a lion passant. Condition is first class.
Mountain is a sweet dessert wine from the hills around Malaga in Spain and was the predecessor of Sherry in the UK, being replaced by the latter circa 1790.
