Mote Spoon, 1735

Sold
Mote Spoon - Scroll Pierced bowl - London circa 1735 by James Delas - 14.5cm long; 7g - AE/4874
This handsome silver mote spoon has long thin stem terminating in a diamond point to enable the unblocking of teapot spouts. The bowl is attractively pierced for skimming dust motes from tea. The spoon is typically part marked with the lion passant and maker's mark, but can be accurately dated to the 1730's by the distinctive heart-shaped maker's mark for James Delas (Grimwade reference 1252). The spoon is in fine condition with neither damage nor repair.
