The Service
We are pleased to be offering a great opportunity to own a lovely quality and nicely presented boxed silver canteen of cutlery in the very popular Hanoverian Rattail.
This is a straight (same date & maker) service that provides for seven pieces per 8 place settings with additional serving spoons. All pieces benefit from being in near-mint condition with no personalised engravings.
Every piece was made in Sheffield 1997 by Mappin & Webb with the knives engraved “Trustworthy Mappin & Webb Sheffield” to the stainless steel blades.
Mappin & Webb have been one of the most established names in the British luxury goods retail market for over a century. Their name is synonymous with quality and this silver flatware service bears testament to that fact.
Hanoverian Rattail Pattern
Hanoverian Rattail was first in fashion between 1710 and 1730 and has been reproduced since the 1880’s. It was the first flatware pattern in the UK to be used for complete canteens. Due to its elegant lines and proportions it has continued to enjoy great popularity and is probably the most sought after traditional pattern. The front of each piece has a distinctive central ridge, whilst the spoons have the trademark rattail extension to the handle on the reverse side of the bowl.
