Georg Jensen Comport, 1937

This large, 8" high Sterling comport was made by Georg Jensen and bear his workshop marks for the period 1925-32, in addition to London import hallmarks. The top plate is dish-shaped and has an all over planished (spot hammered) finish in typical Arts & Crafts style, but it is the decoration around the central spiral twisted column that makes the biggest impact: the hanging grapes are truly sumptuous. This comport or tazza (catalogue no. 263B) is in excellent polished condition and is a superb early piece of Jensen hollowware.
