Irish Hook End Basting Spoon

Sold
Basting Spoon - Hook End - Dublin 1758 by Alexander Richards - 29.4cm long; 122g - NW/3056
This is a great, large example of a mid-18th century basting or stuffing spoon with the handle terminal having the diagnostic hook-end in the typical Irish fashion for the period. There is a large engraved crest featuring a winged lion to the front - this was the heraldic symbol of Mark the Evangelist. The spoon has a generous sized bowl and is in fine condition with a clear set of Dublin hallmarks.
