Irish Hook-end Basting Spoon, 1765

This is a fabulous spoon! At 12" long, it is a truly handsome piece with a beautiful feeling in the hand.

It has the distinctive turned over terminal (hook-end) that immediately distinguishes it as a mid-18th century Irish spoon - and it bears crisp Dublin hallmarks to the reverse to confirm it. The maker's mark is a little worn but can be recognised as the FI mark belonging to Francis Jones. The engraved hound crest with complex script cipher to the terminal adds to the appeal and the bowl retains its original thick tip. An elegant spoon in fine condition.
