Soup Ladle - Old English Feather Edge - London 1774 by Hester Bateman - 34cm long; 151g - UH/7872
This is a spectacular example of a Hester Bateman silver soup ladle. This large ladle has all the signs one would expect from a high quality server. The bowl is fluted, as opposed to the standard plain bowl and the handle is decorated with an attractive bright-cut engraved border. To the handle terminal there is a superb engraved coat-of-arms above a floral flourish and surmounted by a crest. This Georgian period ladle is in excellent crisp condition throughout with a good set of bottom-struck hallmarks.
Hester Bateman is recognised as one of the most important of all English lady silversmiths with some outstanding designs - this ladle epitomises that quality.
