Marrow Scoop & Spoon - London 1783 by Hester Bateman - 22.4cm long; 53g - RC/6736

Sorry, this item is out of stock.

This is an excellent example of a dual purpose silver table spoon combined with marrow scoop made by the famous Hester Bateman.

This lovely spoon has a great feel in the handle and is in superb condition. Marrowfat taken from large beef bones were a Georgian delicacy and the scoop section of this spoon would have been used to tease out those tasty morsels.

The reverse side of the central shank contains the deeply struck London hallmarks (including the all-important maker's mark for the lady silversmith Hester Bateman) and original "IMD" initials belonging to the original owner.

A fine and scarce piece of Hester Bateman antique silver.
