Chalice - Goblet-form - London 1787 by Hester Bateman - 15cm high; 172g - QF/7239
This charming Georgian period silver communion cup has the bonus of being made by the most famous lady silversmith, Hester Bateman.
Standing 6" tall, it has a gilt interior, and is engraved with the Christogram “IHS” to the cup and “S.D. Patri Filio et Spiritui Sancto” (to the father, to the son and to the holy ghost) around the base. The S.D. potentially means Saluto Dei (Greetings to God). It is in excellent condition with some wear to hallmarks and as well having religious significance could easily be used in a secular context as a wine goblet.
