Great War Commemorative Silver Bowl, 1918 by AE Jones
£495.00
Bowl - Circular with 3 Floral Legs - Birmingham 1918 by A E Jones - 18.2cm diameter; 8cm high; 356g - HC/6160
This is a lovely arts & crafts, hand-made silver bowl made by AE Jones commemorating the First World War (Great War).
Made during the date letter cycle for 1918/19 (running May to May), this good-sized and attractive looking bowl is engraved to each of the three sides:
- WAR DECLARED 4th AUGUST 1914
- ARMISTICE SIGNED 11th NOVEMBER 1918
- PEACE SIGNED
Curiously, the date for the signing of the peace has been left blank and presumably means the bowl was bought/presented prior to the Treaty of Versailles on 28th June 1919.
The bowl stands on three feet and has a decorative gallery featuring a tangle of roses around the top rim. In typical arts & crafts style, it has an all-over spot hammered finish. Just about large enough to accommodate fruit, this is a good-sized 7.2" diameter bowl that is in excellent condition throughout.
