Pemberton Gilt Rattle, 1780

This is a very attractive Georgian silver-gilt coral & bells rattle. This rattle is beautifully decorated with bands of flowers, leaves and shells and has jangly bells, a coral teether and a whistle to entertain the baby. It is in excellent condition, although the bells have some bumps and bruises from use. It bears a maker's mark for Samuel Pemberton and pre-dates the duty mark introduced in 1784.
