Georgian Sugar Sifter Spoon, 1776

Sugar Sifter Spoon - Old English pattern - London 1776 by William Sumner & Richard Crossley - 19.2cm long; 56g - JH/4287</p>
This is a really good 18th century silver sugar sifter spoon. It is larger than standard Georgian examples and has a superbly pierced bowl with crosslets, roundels and crescents. It has a crisp and interesting bear claw crest emanating from a coronet to the front terminal. The hallmarks are bottom-struck and typically pinched making them tricky to read - the date letter is straight forward and the "WS/RC" maker's mark can be seen with a loupe. A really elegant silver spoon in fine original condition.
