Sugar Basket - Pierced Navette Shape with Swing Handle - London 1789 by Henry Chawner - 18cm high with handle up; 11.2cm high with handle down; 16cm long; 228g - BH/1505
This is a beautiful late 18th century silver basket with swing handle and standing on a pedestal foot. The quality of the piercing around the body is outstanding and superbly shows off the colour of the original blue glass liner. The piercing shows a display of trailing flowers on a trellis backdrop with a scroll cartouche to one side. The cartouche benefits from not bearing engravings , although one has been professionally removed.
This Neo-classical basket could be used for all manner of purposes and remains in excellent condition.
