Mid-18th century cream pails can be tricky to find in good order and this is a fine example of the type. This attractive Georgian silver cream pail has been expertly pierced and has an openwork swing handle. The basket is fitted with a blue glass liner and is supplied with a cream ladle that will be very close in date. The ladle has two bottom-struck hallmarks and was made circa 1770. It is engraved with a bright-cut border, a crest of a hand holding a star and the motto "Essayer". The hallmarks to the cream pail are found amongst the piercing on the main body with the "RM" maker's mark struck twice. The condition is excellent throughout.
