Basket - Square Based & Pierced; Blue Glass Liner - London 1774 by Burrage Davenport - 20cm high with handle up; 13.8cm high with handle down; 11cm diameter; 461g - BH/2714
This is as good quality example of a late 18th century pierced basket as you are likely to find. Standing on a square pedestal foot with chased acanthus leaves and roundels, together with the body pierced and embossed with festoons in the Neo-classical taste, this basket just oozes high class. The blue glass liner appears to be the original and the trellis work piercing shows it off beautifully. There is a good quality twist rope swing handle and the full set of hallmarks are located under the foot. A fabulous sugar vase or sweetmeat basket in superb condition throughout.
