Meat Platter - Oval with Gadroon Border - London 1794 by William Pitts & Joseph Preedy - 38.5cm long x 26.8cm; 1175g - FP/3650</p>
This is a lovely quality 15" Georgian period silver serving platter or meat plate. This good-sized plate was made in the late 18th century by one of the best silversmithing partnership of the period, Pitts & Preedy. The edge of the tray is mounted with a gadroon border that oozes high quality. With a weight of 38 tr.oz. the plate has a good hefty feel and is a first rate quality item. It is in excellent condition with typical knife scratches to the front surface. The front border is engraved with a superb coat-of-arms with both halves displaying lion rampants and the reverse side of the platter showing the scratch weight and "No.11" suggesting that it was originally part of a much more extensive suite.
