A rare piece of Georgian silver in the form of a round bowl with pull off cover. The cover can also be used as a stand upon which the bowl stands. This type of bowl were often given for presentation or as Christening presents, but can be used for all manner of purpose include sugar, sweets etc.

 

The bowl has a superbly engraved Coat-of-Arms with an abbreviated Latin inscription below "D.D. Jos Taylor Armi:" which describe the bowl as a gift of Joseph Taylor, Armiger. D.D. is an abbreviation of Donum Dedit (gift given) and an armiger is a person entitled to bear heraldic arms.

 

This bowl is in fine original condition with a beautiful patina and clear hallmarks to the underside.
