Sugar Sifter Spoon - Old English Pattern with Bright-cut Engraving - London 1781 by Benjamin Mordecai - 16.1cm long; 35g - UP/4971

Sorry, this item is out of stock.

This is a fabulous George III period silver sugar sifter spoon with a delicate bright-cut engraved design.

The spoon is made in the Old English pattern and bears the original bright-cut engraving along the handle edge together with a superb engraved crest of a barking hound to the terminal. The hallmarks to the reverse side include the "f" date letter which was the first to be top-struck on a London-made spoon and the earliest for small spoons.

The maker of this spoon, Benjamin Mordecai, is a mysterious character and also appears to have called himself Benjamin Mountigue. The spoon is in fine condition with a crosslet and scroll wreath pierced bowl.
