This is a good, early George II period silver tumbler cup made in London by Edward Pocock

Tumbler cups are so called because however hard you rock them, they will return to the standing position. They are often thought to have originated on-board ship to assuage the choppiness of the sea. This 290-year old tumbler cup is an excellent example with a good capacity of 3.3 fl.oz (95ml) more than enough for a full measure of a well-earned whisky or brandy!

This tumbler cup is in fine condition with better than typical hallmarks to the underside (the positioning makes them prone to wear, but the London marks on this example remain legible). It is also engraved to the underside with an original engraved betrothal triangle - "M" over "C*M" where the letter "M" would have been the surname of the happy couple and the "C" and "M" their first names.

This is one of a selection of silver tumbler cups that we are currently offering. The final two photos shows all four examples so that you can see the size difference; this one being on the far right.
