Marrow Spoon/scoop - Galleon-back - London 1761 by William Turner - 23.2cm long; 57g - ES/8764

Sorry, this item is out of stock.

The "Galleon Back" celebrated Britain's supposedly invincible navy of the mid-18th century and this form of picture back is rare on teaspoons, very rare on table spoons and the first we have encountered on a marrow spoon! The picture shows a three-masted ship on the high seas in full sail and is the same scene found on other "Britannia Rule The Waves" memorabilia of the period. The detail of the picture is very good although some of the finest definition is soft from table contact.

This marrow spoon takes the usual form with a long slender scoop at one end to tease out the tasty morsels from marrow bones and a standard table spoon bowl to the other. The heel of the spoon bowl bears an original engraved betrothal triangle. The spoon is in fine overall condition with a good set of hallmarks.
