Frontiniac Label, 1770

Wine Label - Frontiniac; Crescent - London circa 1770 by WB - 4.9cm diameter; 12g - CF/1479</p>
This crescent-shaped wine label bears the scarce name of FRONTINIAC to the front. It bears the single maker's mark of WB to the reverse side and from the form of the label and lack of a duty mark would suggest a date of about 1775. There were plenty of silversmiths with the initials WB in late 18th century London with William Barrett I, William Brockwell and Walter Brind being the most likely candidates for the mark on this label. The label is in excellent condition and hangs from a belcher chain.
Frontiniac is the anglicised version of Frontignac; a sweet muscadine wine from the Languedoc region of France.
