Wine Funnel - Exeter circa 1815 by Simon Harris - 14cm tall; 10cm diameter top rim; 141g - HT/5840

This is a very scarce silver wine funnel with Exeter hallmarks for the silversmith Simon Harris.

This two-piece wine funnel has a strainer section to the top and a swan neck funnel. The strainer has drilled holes, an ovolo mount and applied hanging hook to the side. The elegant spout has the requisite bend at the end to prevent the wine from bruising (it is directed towards the side of the decanter rather allowing a long drop).

This good quality West Country wine funnel has matching Exeter hallmarks to the funnel and strainer sections - neither piece bears a date letter which is not unusual for small provincial items - and the SH maker's mark for Simon Harris. It benefits from being in excellent condition with its original swan-neck funnel still intact.
