Spoon - Lion Sejant - Exeter c.1590 by Christopher Easton - 185mm; 46 grams - Ref. No.: QQ/9643

Sorry, this item is out of stock.

A superb west country Elizabethan period lion sejant affronte spoon made by one of the best provincial spoonmakers of the period. The cast seated lion finial retains some of the original gilding and has been superbly crafted and a sign of the extra quality is the gap between front and hind legs. The condition of the spoon is superb with a full unworn bowl, hexagonal stem and original detailing to the finial. The reverse of the stem is clearly marked  "C ESTON" (some silver by the same maker is marked "C EASTON").

See figure 15d (page 8) in "West Country Silver Spoons & Their Makers" by Tim Kent for another lion sejant by Easton.
