Eagle's Wing Caddy Spoon, 1814

Sold
Caddy Spoon - Eagle's Wing - Birmingham 1814 by Joseph Willmore - 8cm long; 9.3g - SW/7734
This is a superb example of the most well known of all caddy spoons - the Eagle's Wing. A major bonus for this spoon is the excellent condition with crisp texture to the feathers and a good set of hallmarks.
There are two distinct types of eagle's wing - the Joseph Willmore type and the slightly later Matthew Linwood type. This spoon is from the workshop of the former and dates from the first year of known eagle wing production.
The iconic eagle's wing is the symbol of the Society of Caddy Spoon Collectors and is probably the most famous and hardest to find member of the "must-have-trinity": Jockey Cap, Hand and Eagle's Wing. No serious collection of caddy spoons should be without one!
