Hinged Nutmeg Grater by Owen & Boon

The silversmithing partnership of Owen & Boon existed for just over a year from March 1856 into 1857 and consequently silver pieces made by them are very rare.

This egg-shaped nutmeg grater has the rare feature of having a hinged rasp - Georgian examples of this form tended to have a lift-out rasp. Both halves are hallmarked to the interior with the marks spread between upper and lower sections. This rare Victorian silver nutmeg grater is in excellent condition.
