Charles II Silver Laceback Trefid Spoon, 1679
£1,250.00
Table Spoon - Trefid; Laceback - London 1679 by Lawrence Coles - 19.3cm long; 49g - BF/667
Laceback silver trefid spoons are one of the most sought after forms and this is a superb example with good, crisp decoration and clear hallmarks.
Dating from the late Charles II period and made by the important silver spoonmaker Lawrence Coles, this table spoon is decorated with die-stamped high relief scrolls to the back of the bowl and similar to the front terminal. Made to celebrate the marriage of "W" to "M" with the surname "S" (see engraved betrothal triangle), this is a really fine quality example and benefits from being in superb condition - the vast majority of laceback trefids have worn decoration.
This Carolean spoon is a first class example of its type and has the further bonus of a good, clear set of London hallmarks.
