Charles I Silver Slip Top Spoon, 1632 by Richard Crosse
£1,950.00
Spoon - Slip Top - London 1632 by Richard Crosse - 17.2cm long; 53g - DB/4029
This Carolean slip top spoon has a nice, solid feel in the hand and is in fine antique condition.
The spoon has the usual hexagonal, tapering stem with cut-off terminal and a fig-shaped bowl. The bowl is in unworn, fine condition and the overall patina is good. This lovely quality Charles I spoon is clearly hallmarked and includes the RC maker's mark for Richard Crosse.
The spoonmaker Richard Crosse was apprenticed to William Frend in 1623 and subsequently turned over to Robert Jygges. In turn, he became master to future specialist spoonmakers, such as Richard Wild in 1625, Nicholas Miller in 1632 and John Crosse in 1637.
