This is a fabulous set of mid-18th century silver teaspoons complete with matching tea tongs and presented within their original case.

Dating from the 1750's/60's, this tea equippage set consists of eight teaspoons in the naturalistic fashion with leafy tendril handles and a leaf bowl and a pair of scissor-action sugar nips or tea tongs that were made to match and have a leaf hiding the central pivot.

The original shagreen covered box is well used but perfectly practicable and the two fastening loops still work - the presence of this box is a major bonus and the wear just adds a general charm and feeling of antiquity to the set.

Typically for this type of set, the pieces are unmarked, however their style, construction, quality and the box all suggest a date from the late George II or early George III periods. The condition is excellent!
