Beaded James II Silver Trefid Spoon, 1685 Ed Hulse
£650.00
Spoon - Trefid; Beaded - London 1685 by Edward Hulse - 18.9cm long; 46g - VF/6497
Dating from the short reign of King James II, this is a great example of silver trefid spoon.
The spoon has the additional feature of beading running down the centre of the rattail to the reverse of the bowl. The back of the terminal is dot-prick engraved with original "M.I" initials ("I" being the old way of writing a "J") above the date "86", showing the engraving to be the initials of the original owner and contemporary to manufacture.
The London-hallmarks to the reverse stem are fabulous with a clear date letter for 1685 and "EH" maker's mark for the specialist spoonmaker Edward Hulse. The spoon is in excellent overall condition with an antique patina.
