Bead-edge Marrow Scoop, duty dodger

Sold
Marrow Scoop - Bead pattern - London c.1775 by Walter Tweedie - 205mm long; 39g - Ref. No.: YV/2978
A beautiful example of a mid-1770's double ended marrow scoop. This scoop has a bold bead edge to the front of the central shank. To the reverse side the maker's mark "WT" is struck four times in typical duty dodger fashion. This type of marking was used to avoid assay and duty charges and items with this type of marking have become collectable in their own right. An excellent item in fine condition.
