At 10.5" in length, this is a super-sized Queen Anne period silver marrow spoon and scoop.

Made by the top specialist spoonmaker William Scarlett, this is a fabulous quality antique marrow scoop with Britannia standard hallmarks for the higher 95.8% purity. The spoon has a standard bowl to one end and a narrow marrow scoop to the other so that it can remove the marrow fat from beef bones, however it is the overall length that stands it out from other antique marrow scoops.

The spoon bowl is a generous size with a bold rattail to the underside. Engraved to the central shank is an original betrothal triangle with "E" being the initial letter of the  happy couple's surname.

William Scarlett was a major spoonmaker from the early 18th century. He completed his apprenticeship in 1694 with the relatively unknown Simon Scott, but in turn taught some of the finest spoonmakers of the next generation - George Cox, William Juson, Henry Clarke, Nathaniel Roe, Jeremiah King, Richard Scarlett ....
