Grape Scissors - Bacchanalian Pattern - London 1868 by Henry Lias & Henry Lias - 18.5cm long; 109g - GN/6567

This is a fabulous pair of silver Victorian grape shears in one of the most sought after flatware patterns - Bacchanalian.

Both arms are of these scissors are superbly decorated with a Classical scene of a festival celebrating Bacchus the Roman God of the grape harvest and wine. Appropriately, the semi-clad revellers in the scenes are enjoying a feast of grapes. The reverse sides of both arms are decorated with wine related motifs and engraved with an original crest depicting a stag and the motto "All for the Best".

Used to trim individual grapes from their stems, these antique silver grape scissors have a good feel in the hand and are in fine condition. Unusually and as a bonus, the upper blade has a steel insert for improving the cutting action. The London hallmarks are spread across the insides of the blades.

Bacchanalian pattern was originally designed during the Regency period by Paul Storr for Rundell, Bridge & Rundell.
