Inkwell - Arts & Crafts - London 1919 by Omar Ramsden - 11.5cm diameter base; 7.5cm high; 485g gross weight - RZ/5939
This is a remarkable arts & crafts silver inkwell made by Omar Ramsden.
Decorated around the main circular body with a band of beautifully chased oak leaves and acorns, this really is quite a fabulous piece of English silver. The top of the inkwell is raised up on buttresses and the hinged cover is fitted to the finial with a chrysoprase cabochon.
A major bonus is the presence of the original glass liner for holding the ink and this can be removed for easy cleaning. The inkwell is loaded to the interior to provide sturdiness and covered to the base with green baize.
This quite exceptional silver inkwell remains in superb condition and bears a crisp set of London hallmarks for the most important British silversmith of the 20th century, Omar Ramsden.
