The Service

This is a top quality Sterling silver canteen of flatware and cutlery by one of the most important silversmiths of the 20^th century. The service provides for the standard seven pieces for 8 place settings with the addition of a set of six pairs of fish eaters and a range of serving items.

All the pieces were made by Georg Jensen and bear the post-1945 Jensen workshop Sterling mark. Each piece also bears a London import hallmark with some pieces dating from 1963, but the set was later augmented and other identical pieces date from the late 1980’s. The stainless steel blades of the knives also bear the “George Jensen” name.

The servers include two sauce ladles and four spoons with generous bowls. There are eight tea and coffee spoons (four of each) which are useful additions to what is a very nice set with a feeling of high quality in the hand.

Old Danish Pattern

This stylish pattern was designed by Harald Nielson in 1947 and is also known by its Danish name of Dobeltriflet. As its Danish name suggests it has a double thread running around a shaped handle.

Georg Jensen

Georg Jensen was a Danish silversmith who opened his first silver workshop in 1904 in Copenhagen. He was to become the most renown maker of silverware in the World with shops in London, Paris, New York, Berlin and Stockholm. His company embraced the Art Deco movement of the 1920’s, 30’s & 40’s and some of his most important patterns were designed during this period. Many of the Jensen flatware patterns have endured the test of time and remain highly popular today.

This 74-piece service consists of the following:

Total weight of weighable silver 3335 grams (107.2 troy ounces) plus 16 silver handled knives.

Condition

The service is in excellent original condition and benefits from having no personalised engravings to the pieces.

Presentation

This canteen is supplied in ten new, navy blue anti-tarnish cutlery rolls. There is a roll for each seven-piece place setting (making it easy for gathering the pieces when laying the table), plus one for the dozen fish eaters and a tenth for the serving pieces.
