66 Piece Sterling Silver Pyramid Pattern Dining Service by Georg Jensen

The Service

This is a fabulous 66 piece dining service of silver flatware and cutlery in probably the most sought after of all the Art Deco patterns. The service provides for eleven pieces suitable for use with up to five courses and enough settings for 6 people.

The number of different pieces within this canteen allow great flexibility in choosing how to use the service. For example, there are four types of knife: the fish and dessert/fruit knives have silver blades and the table and cheese/side knives have silver handles with stainless steel blades to enable good cutting - dependent upon the food being served, the knives for the starter course and dessert course could be swapped around. The forks for the starter and dessert courses are identical, with fish fork and a larger table or dinner fork completing the group. The larger oval bowl table spoon is ideal for supping soup and could also be used for serving puproses too. Dessert spoons and the tiny coffee spoons complete the service.

All pieces were made by the famous Georg Jensen with the bonus of each piece bearing not only the Jensen Sterling workshop mark, but also a full set of English import hallmarks for London 1930/31.

Pyramid Pattern

This pattern was designed for Georg Jensen by Harald Nielsen in 1926 and has a stepped terminal and streamlined shape typical of the Art Deco period. The clean lines of this pattern has ensured its enduring popularity and so has continued to be manufactured by Georg Jensen. Later made pieces fit well with the originals of the Art Deco period allowing further expansion of the service should it be necessary.

Georg Jensen

Georg Jensen was a Danish silversmith who opened his first silver workshop in 1904 in Copenhagen. He was to become the most renown maker of silverware in the World with shops in London, Paris, New York, Berlin and Stockholm. His company embraced the Art Deco movement of the 1920’s and 30’s and some of his most important patterns were designed during this period. Many of the Jensen flatware patterns have endured the test of time and remain highly popular today.

Components

This 66-piece service consists of the following:

Total weight of weighable silver  2710 grams (87.1 troy ounces) plus 12 silver handled knives with stainless steel blades.

Condition

Excellent polished condition. The set has hardly been used and benefits from having no personalised engravings to the pieces.

Presentation

This canteen is supplied in new anti-tarnish cutlery rolls. These navy blue rolls have individual pockets and hold 12 pieces in each roll.
