Salt Spoons (6) - Rococo - London circa 1745 by Francis Harache - 9.3cm long; 63g combined weight - BY/1845
Mid-18th century silver salt spoons are relatively uncommon, so to find a set of six in fine condition is quite an achievement!
These spoons are cast in the rococo style with floral stems and shell-shaped bowls. A bonus is the original engraved crest displayed to the reverse of each stem. Three of the spoons are clearly stamped with the "FH" incuse mark of Francis Harache - the marks on the others are less clear or absent, but they are certainly all original to each other.
Francis Harache was distantly related to the famous Pierre Harache (elder), a huguenot silversmith of the late 17th and early 18th centuries. Francis was the nephew to Pierre Harache (junior) and apprenticed to Isaac Cabane. He entered his first mark in 1738 and must have run a sizable workshop with a prolific output specialising in small cast pieces of silver during the Rococo period. More about the Harache family of goldsmiths can be found on Wikipedia.
