The Service
This is an excellent 54 piece straight canteen of silver in a sought after hand-made 20th Century Pattern. The service provides for six pieces per 8 place settings with additional serving items.
All the spoons and forks were hand-wrought in London and marked with the sponsor’s mark of the Crown Jewellers Garrard and Company. The knives are best quality Sheffield made and bear the makers mark of CJ Vander to the silver handles and the Garrards name is engraved to the stainless steel blades.
Garrard & Company are one of the most prestigious UK luxury goods retailers and have been "by appointment" to the Royal Family since 1843. Vanders were the premier manufacturer of hand-wrought silver flatware throughout the second half of the 20th century and all these pieces would have been made by them on commission from Garrards.
The service benefits from having no personalised engravings to any of the pieces.
Marie Pattern
Marie pattern was a 20th century hand-made pattern, the design of which was based on 19th century French flatware patterns. It has reed and ribbon borders along both sides of the stem with scrolls at the upper end and terminating in a floral motif. The reverse shows an anthemion heel at the base of the stem.
Interestingly the hallmarks on the knives bear a special 1973 date letter that commemorated the bicentenary of the Sheffield Assay Office - i.e. it is the identical gothic style letter "E" that was used in 1773 when the assay office first opened.

Excellent polished condition. The set has hardly been used.
Presentation
This canteen is supplied in 9 anti-tarnish cutlery rolls. Eight of these navy blue rolls has a single place setting of 6 pieces with the ninth holding the serving items.
