The Service

We are pleased to be offering a fine Victorian period silver half canteen in Old English Pattern made by one of the premier makers of the period. There are five pieces per 6 place settings including modern silver handled knives.

The spoons and forks in this cutlery service were made in London by one of the most prestigious silver retailers of the late 19th and early 20th centuries - Goldsmiths & Silversmiths Company limited under the management of William Gibson and John Langman (makers mark WG/JL). These pieces were all hand-wrought in the traditional London manner to give them a good balance and durability.

Antique knives tend not to last the rigours of time and so we have opted for 12 modern Old English pattern silver handled knives with stainless steel blades as the most practical knives to complement this canteen. The knife handles are hallmarked Sheffield 1989 by John Barker. All the pieces have been polished and benefit from having no personalised engravings to them.

Old English Pattern

Old English Pattern was first introduced circa 1770 and has always been a favoured pattern due to its elegant and simple form. It was the dominant flatware pattern of the late 18^th century and early years of the 19^th century, but because of its stylish simplicity it has been in continual production ever since.

We have a huge stock of Old English pattern and will be able to add any extra pieces that you might require - i.e. increase the number of place settings, include additional components to a place setting or add serving pieces - please just ask.

Condition

Excellent polished condition with no engravings. The spoons retain their full bowls and the forks are in fine condition with equal length tines.

Presentation

This canteen is offered loose, although anti-tarnish cutlery rolls are available on request (3 required at a cost of £45).
