Canova pattern is considered to be one of Chawner & Company's greatest designs and was made by them for the Great Exhibition of 1851. Antonio Canova was an Italian neo-classical sculptor and the front terminals of this three piece set depicts his famous work of the Dancing Girl Reposing. The Greek poet Sappho with her lyre is depicted to the reverse sides and a variety of motifs are displayed along both sides of the handles.

This lovely quality 3-piece silver child's set comprises a knife, fork and spoon. Each piece has crisp decoration throughout and bears the mark of George Adams who was the owner of Chawner & Company through most of the Victorian period. This a fabulous set that would probably have been given for a christening, but is fortunate to have not been personalised in any way. It remains in excellent condition.
