Soup Plates (2) - Round with Foliate Scroll Border - - London 1856 by Robert Garrard - 25.5cm diameter; 1270g combined weight - CY/7775a</p>
These are a fabulous quality pair of silver soup plates made in London by Garrards. They have a superb mount around the edge and a have a good, hefty feel in the hand. They are in fine condition throughout with typical knife scratches.
This pair of soup plates bear the regimental badge for the 54th Foot (West Norfolk Regiment). In 1881 the 54th Foot was re-badged as the 2nd Battalion of the Dorset Regiment, which was disbanded following the Second World War, leaving the 1st Battalion who were amalgamated in 1958 to form the Devonshire and Dorset Regiment. The plates bear the numbers 25 & 26 and were once part of a much larger service bought from Garrards to use up a surplus of funds that would otherwise have been impounded by the War Office.
We have a further two matching plates retained in stock if required.
