Caddy Spoon - Old Lady's Head - Birmingham 1926 by Winifred King & Co. - 10.2cm long; 26g - VL/9972

Sorry, this item is out of stock.

This is an excellent figural silver caddy spoon made by Coventry based, Arts & Crafts lady silversmith Winifred King. The bowl is spot hammered in the traditional taste of the Arts & Crafts movement and the handle is formed as an old lady's head with a bold number "3". It must be representative of something: perhaps something significant in the mid 1920's, for example the women's suffrage movement. It has also been suggested that the figure may represent Old Mother Hubbard. Whatever the spoon symbolizes, it is a rare piece by a sought after maker and remains in fine condition. .
