Sorry, this item is out of stock.

This is a fine quality Victorian silver table snuff box with a good hefty weight in the hand. The cover has an interesting engraved presentation inscription to the central field and is bordered by engine turning and a high raised, cast scroll border. The remainder of the exterior is engine turned with some wear on the base from table contact. The cast thumb-piece can be lifted to reveal a gilt interior and the hallmarks in typical Birmingham box style. "Presented to Mr Thomas Beveridge October 23rd 1852 by the workers of Soho Foundry Preston as a token of respect for his long faithful and impartial conduct towards them as their manager". The Soho Foundry was built by Joseph Clayton in 1835 to make steam boilers and were still in production at the time of this snuff box. In 1887 the foundry was taken over by Joseph Foster Ltd.
