This is a most unusual suite of ice cream spoons with matching servers. There are 8 ice cream spoons with round profile cast handles with all over carved decoration and a Roman soldier finial. En suite, is a pair of long handled servers with similarly decorated handles and finials plus flat serving bowls. The servers are gilt all over whilst the spoons are parcel gilt to the inside of the bowls and lower stems. The decoration on the serving spades is of a particularly high standard with a two tone silver/gold effect with features picked out in silver to accentuate the effect.

Ice cream was a luxury food in the 19th century that was the reserve of the very wealthy, so finding any ice cream sets is quite a rarity and these are a particularly fine quality set with a good hefty weight. They were made by one of the premier silver flatware makers of the late Victorian period, the ice cream spoons date from 1881 and the servers from 1886.
