Sorry, this item is out of stock.

This is a rather unusual George I period silver marrow scoop in that it has a rattail to the reverse of the larger scoop, plus the two scoops face in opposite directions.

The vast majority of marrow scoops from this period are plain and don't have the rattail to the reverse of the bowl as seen with contemporary table spoons. This is presumably because the scoop doesn't sit steady when placed on a table with the large scoop facing upwards and so to counter this minor issue, the small scoop on this example has been reversed thus favouring the hallmarked side to face upwards.

The scoop was made in Britannia Standard silver by Edward Jennings and bears his "Ie" new standard mark (ref. Grimwade 1260) in combination with the leopard's head erased, Britannia and London date letter "C" for 1718.

This is an excellent marrow scoop with lots of points of interest and the bonus of remaining in fine condition.
