Made by the lady silversmith Susannah Barker, this antique silver wine label bears the scarce name TENERIFFE to the front. 

The label is rectangular in form with a flat-chased feather-edge border and can be accurately dated by the presence of the incuse duty mark (mis-struck central mark) to between December 1784 and May 1786. The chain has a hook to one end allowing the label to be unhooked and more easily fitted to decanters with wide tops. This wine label is in excellent condition.  

Tenerife wine from the Canary Islands was especially popular in the late 18th and early 19th centuries.
