Silver "Louvre" Covered Bowl by Georg Jensen, 1927
£950.00
Covered Bowl - Louvre style - London 1927 by George Stockwell (for Jensen) - 12cm diameter; 12.5cm high; 277g - PN/4443
This is a good looking example of Georg Jensen's iconic sterling silver Louvre bowl. This example comes complete with original lift-off cover.
The bowl is a medium sized in the Louvre range with the diagnostic leaf and bud openwork stem between foot and bowl, and the addition of an attractive bud finial to the cover. Both sections retain the spot hammer marks typical of arts & crafts silver.
The underside of the foot and inside the lid are stamped with a full range of Georg Jensen Sterling workshop marks for the 1925-32 period, Danish hallmarks and the product number 108. London import hallmarks for 1927 with the sponsor's mark for George Stockwell, who imported in to the UK on Jensen's behalf, can be found to the side of the bowl.
Often called the "Louvre Bowl" because of a similar example in the collection of the Louvre Museum in Paris, this Geog Jensen sterling silver bowl is a fabulous example of 20th Century Scandinavian design.
