Scottish Toddy Ladle, Cupar 1820

Sold
Toddy Ladle - Fiddle Pattern - Cupar c1820 by Thomas Dall - 15.2cm long; 35g - YD/3054
This lovely Scottish provincial silver toddy ladle bears the very rare marks of Thomas Dall of Cupar. The marks are "TD", "S" crown, castle (?) and thistle - see page 34 of "Illustrated Directory of Scottish Provincial Silversmiths & Their Marks" by Richard Turner where they are described as possibly for Cupar. On this example, the maker's mark is struck twice and only the "D" is visible, however we recently sold a very similar spoon at this link: https://www.antiquesilverspoons.co.uk/cupar-toddy-ladle
Cupar silver is very rare and this fiddle pattern flat bowled ladle is in fine condition with a script engraved letter "A" to the front terminal. A spoon worthy of further research and very competitively priced!
